Let's talk terpenes! Terpenes are aromatic and complex compounds that create the various gassy, cheesy, sweet, fruity, peppery and other smells that make every strain unique. These terpenes create varying effects beyond THC and other cannabinoids which effect the high differently.
What is a Terpene you Ask
Terpenes are naturally occurring compounds found in many plants, like lavender, pine trees and rosemary but they are also found in the cannabis plant. In cannabis, terpenes are produced in the same resin glands (trichomes) that create cannabinoids like THC. That’s why the smell of a flower can often hint at how it might make you feel. But terpenes do more than smell good—they interact with cannabinoids in what’s often called the “entourage effect.” This means the combination of compounds works together to shape your overall experience.

How Terpenes Affect your High
Terpenes can influence your high in several ways:
Modulating Effects- Some terpenes may enhance or soften the effects of THC. For example, certain terpenes can make a high feel more relaxing, while others may promote alertness or creativity.
Influencing Mood- Terpenes are also found in aromatherapy and essential oils, which are known to affect mood. Cannabis terpenes can similarly contribute to feelings like calm, focus, or uplift.
Physical Sensations- Some terpenes are associated with body relaxation, while others may feel more mentally stimulating.
Potential Therapeutic Benefits- Early research suggests terpenes may have anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, or sedative properties—but more studies are still needed to fully understand their impact.
